Install Vmware ESX4 on Workstation PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 21 May 2009 20:16

Yesterday it was time for downloading vmware ESX4 and vSphere. So Immediately I have installed ESX 4 on Workstation 6.5.2 build-156735. It is verry easy to install esx4 on workstation and there are no special settings necessary. Just make sure the VM you make for this has at least 2 Gb RAM. It is possible to do this with less, but I do not discuss this here. The steps which I explain below will not rule out that it works with other settings

  1. The first Thing is to startup Workstation and make a Virtual machine.
    • Click File >> New >> Virtual Machine
    • Use "Custom (advanced)" and click next
    • Make sure it's compatable with Workstation 6.5
    • Choose your ISO or Installer Disc and click next
    • Check "Other" by Guest operating system and "Other 64-bit" by version. Click next
    • Choose your Virtual Machine name and it's location en click next
    • I use two processors and give it 2048 MB of RAM
    • Network connection "Bridged"
    • Check "LSI Logic" by SCSI Adapter and click next
    • Create a new disk
    • Virtual Disk type will be "SCSI" and click next
    • I used 15 Gb of Disk capacity. Click next, next finished.
  2. The second is starting you'r Virtual Machine.
    • You will see the setup as show below. I installed in in Graphical mode.
    • Click Next
    • Leave it to default and click Next
    • After loading it's Drivers click Next
    • I Guess you do not have a serial number, so choose to add a serial number later. This give you time to play for 60 days
    • Leave it to default and click Next
    • You can choose for DHCP but I recommend choosing to add your network settings here.
    • Make your life simple and keep it default. Default is a standard setup.
    • Click Next
    • Choose your Time zone. Caught, the mine is Europe Wink
    • The best is to choose a NTP server. But in this case I choose manually. It is only for testing.
    • Don't forget to add your root password. Click Next.
    • And Hit it!
    • So that wasn't hard.
    • Click Finished and you'r ready!

Probably you need to turn VT technology on your CPU in the BIOS. Just Enable it and see what it does.
