VMware on apple's iPad?

What's hot these days. Hmm let me think. Let me think harder. YES an apple iPad!!! After spending an entire week with my new iPad, I definitely love this device. So... Houston my Wife has a problem! I have found many benefits already, and most new iPad apps are not even out yet.

One of the things I am most looking forward to on the iPad is the ability to use either remote desktop or a native application to control my datacenter environment. Would not that be great! I tried several of these remote desktop apps and I must say it's not 100%, but when you are mobile it's good enough. There are a few remote desktop apps for the iPhone. Even Citrix has one as well. There are a bunch of RDC/VNC applications that can be used to control a whole PC or Mac. On the iPhone, the experience lags both because the iPhone is slow and the screen is smaller than any desktop or the new iPad. Run these applications on the iPad with a faster processor, faster N wireless networking, than this could be the next big thing.

After playing with my iPad and had tried some RDP iPad apps, I decide to buy the Wyse PocketCloud app. Wyse PocketCloud allows you to securely access your desktop anytime and anywhere on your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad. With this app it's possible to connect to a VMware View environment.

VMware makes great stuff, but with the arrival of the iPad it would be nice if VMware develop some management tools for these mobile devices too. At least that's my opinion. And what is not mightier than running your VDI solution with VMware View on the iPad. Citrix announced that Apple iPad can be a virtual desktop and lauched their application. Citrix's new marketing campaign claims the iPad is "open for business," and the company released two pieces of software to the iPad App Store that enable business use of the consumer-focused device. Citrix Receiver lets iPad users access corporate applications and documents. With Citrix Receiver, customers can connect iPads to existing implementations of Citrix XenApp and XenDesktop to deliver Windows applications and desktops to the iPad. What will be VMware's stragety towards this Apple iPad as end device for VDI?

Am I insane to think that remote desktop is one of the capabilities of the iPad just because it's.. cool but also functional?
