I experienced some strange things like every day the datastores on the VMware Proxy were not visible so the backup failed with No Proxy. The MCS (Management Console Server) provides centralized management including scheduling of backups, restore of backups, monitoring and reporting. When you start the Avamar Administrator GUI you are interacting with the MCS. Don't mix MCS with EMS. EMS (Enterprise Manager Server) provides web based management for multiple Avamar Servers as well as monitoring and configuration for Avamar Replication.
How to stop and restart the MCS; First login to a PuTTY session. PuTTY is an ssh client. Download here. As said, login with root to your Avamar Utility Node.
Use the following command to stop the Management Console.
dpnctl stop mcs
Use the following command to start the Management Console. (wait until it's stop before starting again)
dpnctl start mcs
To makes sure everything runs according schedule, Use the following command to start the backup scheduler. (wait until MCS is started before starting again)
dpnctl start sched
