How to resize a LUN that is already replicated by EMC RecoverPoint

Written by on . Posted in How to

It's easy to expand your LUN in a Virtual Pool on your EMC VNX. Just hit expand - add the new size - and you are done! Repeat this on your failover site when using replication with the same LUN and you are all set to go. In your disk management do a rescan on your Windows host and extend volume.

Except you can't see the new value on the Windows host after a rescan. This has something to do with Recoverpoint? Below I explane how to handle with this for RecoverPoint 3.0 and later:

To remove one or more replication sets from an existing consistency group select the consistency group in the navigation pane From your RecoverPoint GUI

Right-click on the consistency group name in the Navigation Pane and select Disable Group.

Click the Replication Set Wizard button above the Component Pane.

The Replication Set Wizard is displayed. Select Remove Replication Sets, and click Next. Select the replication sets to remove from the group, and click Next. Click Finish to remove the selected replication sets from the group.

Increase LUN on your EMC VNX system. Select LUN - Extend LUN...etc.

Increase size on your Windows Host system. Perform a rescan in Disk Management, Select volume expand or use Diskpart...etc.

To Add one or more replication sets from an existing consistency group select the consistency group in the navigation pane From your RecoverPoint GUI and click the Replication Set Wizard button above the Component Pane again. (See point 3)

The Replication Set Wizard is displayed. Select Add Replication Sets, and click Next. Select the replication sets to Add to the group, and click Next. Click Finish to Add the selected replication sets from the group.

Use the Filter volumes by: fields to filter the volumes in the list by Product, Vendor, Name, UID or LUN.

Note: The volume list only displays volumes at the site that are equal to, or greater than, the specified production volume.

You are done. Don't worry about the red crosses, they will disappear in seconds and everything will return green.

Because it's replicating it is still not yet available.
