EMC ViPR is a lightweight software platform that transforms your storage into a simple, extensible, and open platform to meet new, cloud-scale workloads. ViPR lets you deliver on-premises, fully automated storage services efficiently, and easily. In this DD OS release ViPR eliminates complexity by automating the provisioning process of Data Domain. Data Domain can be provisioned as NAS protection storage for archiving supporting both NFS and CIFS. Leveraging ViPR’s storage-as-a-service catalog, Data Domain Management Center and Data Domain systems, enables admins to provide their customers with on-demand data protection services.
As mentioned support for Veeam further expands the DD Boost ecosystem. DD Boost for Veeam enables backup administrators to back up directly to a Data Domain system. DD Boost distributes parts of the deduplication process to the backup server or Veeam client so only unique data is sent from the server or client to the Data Domain system, improving backup performance by 50 percent and reducing bandwidth requirements. This enables fast, efficient protection of virtual machines (VMs). DD Boost for Veeam is supported over both IP and Fibre Channel.
