Synology Cloud Services
Cloud Station - Your personal cloud
Synology announced the official start of the DiskStation Manager (DSM) 4.0 beta program at CES 2012. CES is the world's largest consumer technology tradeshow which is held in Las Vegas. Among several new features and improvements, Cloud Station is the major update. During this beta program, you are invited to test drive Synology's newest NAS OS iteration, and offer feedback, including the new Cloud Station. And you are more than welcome to do so.
Cloud Station offers users a great and simple way to keep their data in sync, including change history, from anywhere. Unlike licensed cloud services, there are no recurring fees, giving users control of their own cloud. Cool isn't it!
DSM 4.0 and Cloud Station put you in control of your own personal cloud. Unlike traditional cloud services, your cloud can grow with you with no recurring fees. Whether you are at home or outdoor, your PC always carries important files with the latest versions in a single folder. For that, Cloud Station does the work for you. It may looks like any other folder on your PC, but the Cloud Station folder is actually a private cloud that always prepares itself up-to-date. Cloud Station pushes files, songs, and photos to any PC that you are working on, and syncs automatically. View and edit your files anytime you want via the Cloud Station folder even without the Internet connection. You can edit spreadsheets, create a new document, or upload photos all within the folder offline. After Internet access is resumed, all changes will be automatically synced onto Cloud Station and will be ready again for next offline viewing. Even without any network settings, you can still access your files remotely. With Synology’s ezCloud, there’s nothing you can’t retrieve over the Internet. Once the network cable is connected to your DiskStation, you can use Cloud Station and DS file to access and sync files. There’s no need to configure a router or any other network device. No matter where you are, your files are always at hand.
Cloud Station is currently only available on Windows PCs. MAC users have to be patience. But I guess it won't be long before MAC users will be servered. Because DSM 4.0 is launching the popular Synology mobile apps. Optimized for Android tablets and Kindle Fire. Sync files between your iOS devices with iCloud. And use QuickConnect on DS file, no network settings are necessary for remote access. New iPhone and iPad apps are available in the App Store
In addition to Cloud Station, new DSM 4.0 features are:
- an improved UI
- a revamped Package Management system
- native support for Apple Airport Express/Extreme
- flexible notifications systems
- an improved iOS and Android apps
- ds Photo+ for the Kindle Fire
